Inside the Game: Tips, Training, and Inspiration

I've coached long enough to know that leadership doesn't come from a curriculum. It comes from conditions. The right environment. The right expectations. Adults who stay present and hold the line. Small-town football still has those conditions. And that's worth talking about.

High school sports are about far more than wins and losses. They’re a training ground for life, where young athletes learn lessons that outlast any scoreboard. As we prepare for another Colorado 8-Man All-State Football Game, it’s worth reflecting on what truly matters for players and the families and communities that support them.

As a coach in a small-town football program, we seen firsthand how this game does more than just teach kids how to block and tackle. It builds character. It creates leaders. It brings entire communities together. That’s why I’m proud to support the All-State Foundation, a nonprofit that exists to strengthen and celebrate small-town football across Colorado and beyond.
